Another Month Come & Gone–May

I’m going to attempt to get the blog updated with what we’ve been up to lately.  I haven’t even mentioned the fact that I turned 30 three months ago and Matt turned 30 one month ago.  We’ve been to the zoo, spent lots of time with family and friends, Hadley had her first sleep-over at nana & poppy’s, I got some projects “done” around the house, and on and on!  I think I’ll do some quick photo recaps by month to try to get caught up.

MAY

The very beginning of May, my mom was in town to help with the girls while Matt traveled for work.  He had a golf tournament to play in Austin the day after my mom was planning to leave and she offered to take Hadley for the night to give me a break since Matt could bring her back with him the next day.  It was a last minute plan, which was probably for the best so I didn’t have time to think about it and change my mind.  Hadley didn’t get much sleep (bed around 8:30 and awake at 5:30am!) and was EXHAUSTED when she got home the next day, but I know she had a great time – and when Katie & Eric found out she was in town they rearranged their schedules to head down to see her, which I know she loved, too!

I took this next picture at 9:45am the next morning!  She has NEVER slept that late in her life!  Sweet girl was OUT!

While she was gone, it was AMAZING how much I got done!  Harper was happy as could be that she didn’t have to share the spotlight with big sister.

In addition to the cleaning and organizing I did, I also decided to paint our foyer table and the door to our garage, as well as start working on some trim painting!  This table used to be black… you can see it here, in the tour of our old house. I used the same color to do our back door, too.

You might remember me mentioning that I want to repaint the trim throughout our whole house.  We had painters come and do the kitchen back around Christmas, which you can see here, and I decided to try my hand at it with the free time I had with Hadley gone.  I hadn’t done the baseboards or the crown when I took the “after” because I was just excited I’d finished the door.  One of these days I’ll get around to taking a better “after” picture.

After: (Still needs the baseboards painted, another coat around the door, and the plan is to put up wainscoting along that wall where the picture is and do hooks all along the wall for backpacks, keys, etc…)

We had some fun play dates at the mall with our friends Morgan, Brynn & Ellie…

 

Hadley had fun with her million bath toys and worked on writing the first letter of her name!

Hadley also had her last day of preschool!  The picture below is her first & last days – in the same outfit!  I can’t believe how much she changed in just 9 months!

And the end of the month, Matt turned 30!  We celebrated with 30 mini cupcakes (or “pupcakes” as Hadley calls them) and a family dinner at home.  That weekend we continued the celebration with golf and dinner with friends.

Harper’s Room

This will likely be the last “decorating” post on here for awhile.  For some reason I just don’t foresee myself having a lot of time to work on the house with 2 little girls to keep alive love on all day! Hopefully, some day in the not so distant future, I’ll get back to it, but for now, I’ll leave you with Harper’s nursery!

I thought it might be fun to see quick before and after, too.  The before has the seller’s things (and is eventually probably similar to what this room will look like again, as it won’t stay Harper’s room once she and big sister are on similar schedules).  This is also the reason we didn’t paint in this room yet; I don’t know how long it will stay Harper’s room before it goes back to a guest room.  Hadley’s room has a jack & jill bath that connects it to another room, so long-term, the girls will both be upstairs, but for now, I am so thankful to have an extra bedroom downstairs to use as a nursery!

A house update: paint!

I know I have been awful about posting pictures of the house now that we are in and settled, but moving with a two year old when you’re pregnant doesn’t make for a lot of down time and decorating. 

That said, as our Christmas present to each other this year, Matt and I decided to get some painting done (as you might remember me mentioning, I basically want every inch of this house repainted at some point – walls, trim, doors, shutters, you name it!)

We decided to start in the kitchen.  Even though this isn’t finished yet, because I haven’t finished making the new valances (even though I have all the fabric – I got distracted by the nursery), I still LOVE the change the paint made!

So, here is the first set of house before/afters (with a sneak peek at the valances).

Before:

During: (Although the trim already had one coat done, you can see the difference between the two walls pretty well in this picture below.  Just for reference – the color of the door is the color of the old trim.  The door will be painted one of these days, too! One thing at a time!)

And AFTER: (sort of – minus the new valances)  The paint colors used were Sherwin Williams Universal Khaki on the walls and dover white on the trim.

And here is a quick preview at the fabric for the valances – this one is just pinned up there, will have ties, etc…

Hopefully the valances will be finished soon and I’ll have better “after” pictures for you then!  With a new baby on the way, though… I’m not making any promises!

Master Bedroom Reveal

Alright y’all, the time has finally come for me to reveal our master bedroom updates!  If you’re new here, you can read up here, here, here and here to see more about the process I went through with Courtney to make these updates.  There are still some things that I’d like to tweak, and the wall on the other side of the room isn’t finished yet, but I feel like it’s come such a long way and I am LOVING.IT.  I have to send out a gigantic THANK YOU to Courtney, because without her, we would still be living in the “before”!  I feel so so blessed to have had our room chosen for her Just Four Things series, and I have to give her credit for the huge transformation!  So, Courtney, thank you, thank you, thank you!

(And also a quick thank-you to the Mr. for being patient and allowing me to re-do our room when he was perfectly happy with it the way it was.  Happy (early) birthday to me, right honey? )

So, before we see the “after” here is a quick reminder of where we were “before.”

Matt’s side of the nightstand with his “DAD” picture that I made him for Father’s Day.  (Which has been pinned like 5,000 times on Pinterest!  Who would have thought – it was just randomly inserted into one of Hadley’s monthly updates!)

The original plan was to stencil on the larger canvas, but when I put a sample on a piece of paper up there, it seemed to take away from the picture a little.  Do you think it looks too plain without anything on the back canvas?
